Rose Furman

Rose M. Furman of Elizabeth, NJ, passed away on Thursday January 29, 2026, at the age of 77. Rose was born on May 28, 1948 in the Galicia Region of Spain to the late Rosa (nee Meirino) & the late Faustino Meirino. She was predeceased by her husband, Paul K. Furman and her sister, Manuela Fernandez. Surviving to cherish Rose’s loving memory is her faithful partner for 20 years, Ron Charles; daughters Adrian (nee Furman) Gardner & her husband William, and Krysten (nee Furman) Pantelic & her husband Pete. Rose is also survived by her eight grandchildren Jason, Rhyan, Parker, Autumn, Aubree, Colton, Quinn and Nolan. Rose was a resident of Elizabeth for over 45 years. She had been a beautician in Elizabeth and the surrounding Union County area for more than 30 years. Rose was a member of the Union Elks, where she enjoyed playing darts with her late husband. She spent her Saturdays and Sundays “garage-sailing” and collecting antiques. And she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held this Saturday February 7th at 12:00 noon in the Good Shepherd Chapel Mausoleum of Hollywood Memorial Park, 1500 Stuyvesant Avenue, Union, NJ 07083. Entombment in the Mausoleum will follow. Janet M. Dusman of Union, N.J. passed away and entered into eternal life on Saturday November 8, 2025 at the age of 89. She was the beloved wife of the late Raymond E. Dusman, who passed away on November 5, 2012. Janet is survived by three children, Raymond E. Dusman, M.D. & his wife Judy; Brian M. Dusman; and Sherry L. Higgins & her husband Pat; 8 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Karen Crandall & her husband Steve. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in Holy Spirit R.C. Alan Force

In Loving Memory of Alan Force Alan Force, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 22, 2025, at the age of 78, surrounded by his loved ones. Born on April 18, 1947, in Orange, New Jersey, to Lorraine Smith Force and Karl Force, Alan grew up in West Orange. A lifelong learner, he earned his bachelor’s degree in biology from Seton Hall University, later teaching physics and chemistry at Archbishop Walsh High School. His passion for science led him to Cornell University, where he earned both his MS and PhD in physical chemistry. He went on to pursue law, earning his Juris Doctor from Fordham University and building a successful career as a patent attorney with several Manhattan law firms. In 1989, while working as a research chemist at the U.S. Army Chemical Defense Center in Maryland, Alan was introduced to the love of his life, Marilyn, on a blind date arranged by close friends. They married in June 1990 and settled in Union, New Jersey, where they built a beautiful life together. Alan and Marilyn shared a great love for travel, finding a special joy in the magic of exploring Disney parks and sailing on cruises together. Throughout his career, travels, and shared Disney adventures alongside Marilyn, Alan was blessed with many cherished lifelong friendships. Alan will be remembered for his dependability, intellect, and passion for learning. He found great joy in sharing his knowledge with others and brought a sense of curiosity into every part of life. Above all, he held a strong love for family and a special devotion to his granddaughters, Gabriela and Caroline. He was a dedicated member of Trinity Episcopal Church, where he enjoyed the warmth and embrace of the community. His interests ranged from photography and Formula 1 racing to golf, astronomy, and an appreciation for automobiles. Alan was deeply loved by his family and friends, and he will be dearly missed. He is survived by his beloved wife, Marilyn; his stepson, Justin Benko; his stepdaughter and son-in-law, Amy and Matthew Hamill; his granddaughters and grandson-in-law, Caroline Lumpkin and Gabriela and Ethan Fowler; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Harold and Denise Force and Kevin and Mary Ann Force; as well as several nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday September 28, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. in Trinity Episcopal Church, 205 North Avenue East, Cranford, NJ 07016 (GPS: 119 Forest Avenue, Cranford, NJ 07016 – corner of North and Forest Avenues). Father Andrew Kruger, Rector, will be officiating. Interment will follow in the church memorial garden. Maria Marx

Maria Marx of Maplewood, NJ, passed away peacefully on Thursday August 14, 2025 at the age of 95. She was born in Hungary on September 5, 1929 to the late Jovsef & Anna (nee Vadasz) Dancsecs. Maria was the wife of the late John Marx, who passed away on October 13, 1997. She had settled in the United States over 40 years and had been a resident of Maplewood for over 30 years. Maria worked for the Revlon Company for many years. She had an intense love for gardening. She trended one of the most beautiful gardens and planted all variety of flowers along with potatoes, onions and other herbs. Over the years, Maria would ensure that the children in the neighborhood would have hand made cookies and sweet treats for their birthday parties! These were the best kind; native to her country of Hungary and her mother’s recipe. She also enjoyed travelling with her son, Zoltan (known as ‘Zolie’ also deceased) to the Amish countryside on selected weekends to purchase honey and eggs. We miss her and pray that her soul will rest in peace. A gathering will be held for those who choose to pay their final respects and extend their personal tribute to Maria on Tuesday August 19th 10:00 am at the Ron Mowad Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 908-687-1182, (located in the Galante Funeral Home Building), 2800 Morris Avenue, Union, NJ 07083. Charles Dickinson

Music was in Charles Paul Dickinson Jr.'s soul. Affectionately known to his family as "Paul" and to his friends as "DJ Paul", he was always ready to get the party started. His love for music gave him purpose. Paul was also an advocate bowler in his days gaining bragging rights with his 300 perfect score on a good night within his bowling league. Paul was a humble but determined man who never backed down from any obstacle. He was a hustler - always working to provide for his family. Paul served in the United States Air Force from 1961 - 1964. Where he served as a fire truck operator and a boxer, who participated in matches with athletes from other countries and went undefeated in the ring! He worked well with his hands as a tool and die maker until his job became obsolete. In his later years, he worked in the East Orange school system as a security guard where his passion for safety and respect was shown through his 15 years of service at Clifford J. Scott. A Jersey boy through and through, Paul was born in Passaic to Charles Paul Dickinson Sr. and Natalie Long. He lived in Irvington, New Jersey for over 30 years until he and his bride, Annie moved to West Orange, NJ to live with his daughter and her family, where he loved to sit outside and listen to the Floyd Taylor radio station and broadcast his own music show over the internet. Charles Paul Dickinson Jr is survived by his lovely wife, of nearly 50 years, Ann, two sisters, Theresa Knight, Joyce Dickinson and one brother in law Nathan Knight Sr., He also had a, sister, Brenda Davis and four brothers, Alfred, Howard and the twins ; five children: Charles Paul Dickinson III, Nona Lisette Dickinson-Allen, Tonia Hope Dickinson, Crystal Ann Dickinson and John Raymond Lawrence Dickinson; son-in-laws, David Allen, Marlon Pinkney & Brandon Dirden; grandchildren: Donovan, Ciara, Maya, Brittany, Ondia, Nigel, Elijah, Davon & Chase; and greatgrand children: Layla, Bella & Aziyah. Rounded out with plenty of nieces, nephews, cousins and abundance of special friends. Our wish is for Charles Paul Dickinson Jr. to keep jamming with his oldies but goodies until we meet again. Linda S. Bausback of Hillside, NJ, entered into eternal life on Saturday April 19, 2025 at the age of 73. She was born in Glen Ridge, NJ, on June 8, 1951 to the late Virginia (nee Ryzinski) & Arthur Boehmer. Linda had lived in Bloomfield and Union prior to moving to Hillside over 45 years ago. She had been employed as an administrative office aide for the Hillside Board of Education for many years before she retired. Linda had enjoyed trips to Atlantic City, bowling, attending various concerts and most of all traveling on cruises. Linda was the devoted wife of 51 years to Robert Bausback; dear mother of Holly Protopapas & her husband Jonathan; and sister of the late Elizabeth Cox. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend the visitation on Tuesday April 22nd from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at the Ron Mowad Funeral Home & Cremation Service (located in the Galante Funeral Home Building), 2800 Morris Avenue, Union, NJ. Dorothy Jane Mackinson Gerdes of Whiting, NJ (formerly of Union, NJ), went home to be with the Lord on Monday February 17, 2025. She was 91. Dorothy was born on July 1, 1933 as the youngest of identical triplet girls. She was preceded in death by her mother, Mildred, her father, David H. Mackinson, Sr., two sisters, Elaine Knoch and Diana Drake, and a brother, David H. Mackinson Jr. She is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Hermann Gerdes. She is also survived by her loving children: Dwight (Cheryl) Gerdes, of Bradley Beach, NJ, Sherri (Raymond) Washburn, of Warsaw, IN, and Darin (Nicole) Gerdes, of Summerville, South Carolina, and 9 grandchildren: Alana Gerdes, Timothy Washburn, William Washburn, Gracie Gerdes, Ian Gerdes, Alex Gerdes, Christy Gerdes, Sofie Gerdes, and Lily Gerdes. Her presence will be missed. Dorothy graduated from Fort Lee High School, Fort Lee, NJ, and attended Upsala College. The triplets all became nurses and Dorothy earned the title "Licensed Practical Nurse." On June 13, 1959, she married Hermann Kurt Gerdes at Brookdale Baptist Church in Bloomfield, NJ. They settled in Union, NJ, where they raised their family. Dorothy enjoyed working in various hospitals and nursing homes. But private duty care was her favorite. Dorothy was a member of Crossroads Christian Fellowship, formerly known as Clinton Hill Baptist Church, in Union, NJ. Visitation will be held on Friday February 21st from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm in Crossroads Christian Fellowship Church, 2815 Morris Avenue, Union. The funeral service will be held on Saturday February 22nd at 10:00 am in the church. Emtombment to follow in Clover Leaf Memorial Park, Routes 35 and 1, Woodbridge. Elizabeth "Betty" Melillo passed away peacefully on Feb 5th, 2025 in Watchung, N.J. Romantic to the end, her passing comes just a few weeks after that of her husband. After graduating St James High School at the top of her class, Betty started her career at J. Wiss & Sons Co as a secretary where she met her husband of 64 years, Salvatore Melillo. Clever and detail oriented, Betty worked as an Executive Secretary at AT&T for most of her career. Her favorite job was being a proofreader for the Official Catholic Directory, which she enjoyed for many years until her retirement in 2018. Born in Newark, Betty raised her family in Scotch Plains before moving to Millington, NJ. Betty was a devoted member of St. Vincent de Paul Parish for over 30 years. She traveled around the word many times with her husband Sal; sampling a cup of tea in every country! In addition to traveling, her passions were manicures, yoga and mahjong. Betty is survived by her; Son and Daughter-in-Law, Craig and Lucia Melillo; Daughter, Elaine Melillo Lehnert; Granddaughters, Nicole Melillo, Danielle Melillo, Rachel Lehnert and Emma Lehnert; Sister and Brother-in-Law Mary and Virgil DeOliveira; and Brother and Sister-in-Law Frank and Linda Arpaio. Private Services were held on Saturday, February 8th where she will rest at Hollywood Memorial Park in Union, NJ. Frank J. Lawrence of Union, N.J. entered into eternal rest on Sunday, Januay 19, 2025. Frank is predeceased by his Father, Frank, his mother, Mary, and his sister Eunice Harold. Frank is survived by his cousins, Roger Radecki of Jacksonville, Florida, Cynthia Budaj of Tom’s River, New Jersey and Patricia Monahan of Ridgewood, New Jersey. Frank was born, and lived his entire life, in Union. He graduated from Union High School, and went on to receive a degree in architecture from the University of Cincinnati. Frank had a long and fulfilling career as an architect, most recently employed by James Guerra Architects. Philanthropic and community dedication was a cornerstone of his life, where he was an active participant in countless fundraising and charitable efforts over the years. Notably, Frank has been a longstanding member of the Rotary Club of Union, as well as a staunch supporter of the Boys & Girls Club of Union. He also served on the board of directors for the Gateway Family YMCA. In his free time, Frank enjoyed spending time with his many friends, and found immense pleasure attending sporting and artistic performances by his great nieces and great nephews, as well as family gatherings during holidays, at the shore, and for Sunday dinners.
