Dorothy Jane Mackinson Gerdes of Whiting, NJ (formerly of Union, NJ), went home to be with the Lord on Monday February 17, 2025. She was 91.

Dorothy was born on July 1, 1933 as the youngest of identical triplet girls. She was preceded in death by her mother, Mildred, her father, David H. Mackinson, Sr., two sisters, Elaine Knoch and Diana Drake, and a brother, David H. Mackinson Jr. She is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Hermann Gerdes. She is also survived by her loving children: Dwight (Cheryl) Gerdes, of Bradley Beach, NJ, Sherri (Raymond) Washburn, of Warsaw, IN, and Darin (Nicole) Gerdes, of Summerville, South Carolina, and 9 grandchildren: Alana Gerdes, Timothy Washburn, William Washburn, Gracie Gerdes, Ian Gerdes, Alex Gerdes, Christy Gerdes, Sofie Gerdes, and Lily Gerdes. Her presence will be missed.

Dorothy graduated from Fort Lee High School, Fort Lee, NJ, and attended Upsala College. The triplets all became nurses and Dorothy earned the title "Licensed Practical Nurse." On June 13, 1959, she married Hermann Kurt Gerdes at Brookdale Baptist Church in Bloomfield, NJ. They settled in Union, NJ, where they raised their family. Dorothy enjoyed working in various hospitals and nursing homes. But private duty care was her favorite.

Dorothy was a member of Crossroads Christian Fellowship, formerly known as Clinton Hill Baptist Church, in Union, NJ.

Visitation will be held on Friday February 21st from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm in Crossroads Christian Fellowship Church, 2815 Morris Avenue, Union.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday February 22nd at 10:00 am in the church. Emtombment to follow in Clover Leaf
