Obituary for Geraldine A. Allerman (Golden)

Geraldine Anne Allerman (nee Golden) passed away on October 31, 2018 at the age of 84. She is survived by her daughters Lisa El-Shall (Samy) and Jane Rey (Rob) and her grandchildren Sara, Noha and Sherif El-Shall.

Geri was born in Holyoke, Massachusetts. She graduated from Columbia University with a BS in Nursing and went on to obtain both her Masters and EdD in nursing education at Teacher’s College. She began her nursing career at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Paterson, NJ followed by NY Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center and later held positions in administration at St. Luke’s / Roosevelt Hospital (Mt. Sinai) in NYC. She spent the latter part of her career as a nurse educator at both the undergraduate and graduate levels at Pace University, Mercy College, SUNY Binghamton and finally ending her career at UMDNJ. After retiring to Florida she became a faithful volunteer for the Friends of the Boca Raton Public Library.

She will be remembered for her love of education and reading, impressionist art, for her strong political views, and as an avid reader of the New York Times, wherever she happened to be. She enjoyed traveling, visits from her grandchildren and happy hour with friends. She was an enthusiastic fan of her New England teams and was thrilled to see her Boston Red Socks win the 2018 World Series.

Services were private. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the American Cancer Society or Columbia University School of Nursing.
