Antonio R. “Tony” Munoz of Union passed away on Thursday November 28, 2013 with his loving family at his side, at the age of 70. Tony was born in Masbate, Philippines. He was the son of the late Mauro & Natividad (nee Ruiz) Munoz. He immigrated to the United States in 1975 and settled in Elizabeth for 5 years before moving to Union in 1980.
Mr. Munoz was a window clerk with the United States Postal Service at the Elizabeth Post Office for over 25 years prior to his retirement in 2004. Tony was a very active and devoted parishioner of Holy Spirit Church in Union where he served as the Head Usher for the 12:00 noon Mass, a Eucharistic Minister and served on the bereavement ministry. He was a member of the Saint Philomena Servants Helpers / Cenacle prayer group of Holy Spirit Church. He also volunteered for the Union County Senior Council, and enjoyed ballroom dancing, that he and his wife Cecilia taught to others. Tony was a very deeply religious man who spent much of his time watching the EWTN Global Catholic Network.
Tony is the beloved husband of Cecilia (nee Pineda) Munoz; devoted father of Mark Munoz and Melodie Sidun & her husband Michael; dear brother of Lydia Ng, Elsa Sy, Alice Cariaga, Mauro Munoz Jr., Carmen Jacala, Tomas Munoz, Father Arcadio Munoz, Lina Kummer, Emmanuel, the late Norma Munoz and the late Felisa Munoz; Cherished grandfather of Matthew and Daniel Sidun.
Visitation will be held on Saturday November 30th and Sunday December 1st from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Ron Mowad Funeral & Cremation Service (908-687-1182), 2800 Morris Ave, Union (Galante Funeral Home) The Funeral Mass will be held on Monday December 2, 2013 at 9:30 a.m. at Spirit Church, 970 Suburban Road, Union. All are asked to gather at the church. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated by Tony’s brother, Father Arcadio Munoz and co-celebrated by Father Armand Mantia.
